Phil Shaps is a Marketing & Business Evaluator and Professor with over 20 years of experience as an Executive Director of Marketing at Universal Pictures, where he promoted more than 400 films, including E.T., Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and A Beautiful Mind. He also serves as an online instructor and CBE Student Evaluator at WGU.
His professional experience includes business development and the creation of strategic marketing plans to achieve corporate objectives for products and services, while ensuring alignment with overall sales strategies. He has developed and managed comprehensive lead generation maturation programs, overseen marketing operating budgets, and executed both short- and long-range marketing plans to support organizational sales and revenue goals.
Phil has extensive experience establishing and maintaining a consistent corporate image across product lines, as well as designing and overseeing the development and production of promotional and collateral materials across print, online, electronic media, and direct mail. He has also conducted competitive analysis, monitored marketing activities, and performed win/loss analyses to strengthen brand awareness and drive product demand.
His teaching philosophy is centered on helping students become critical thinkers by using real-life experiences to develop practical problem-solving skills. He believes in learning from others, recognizing that everyone brings different strengths and perspectives. Phil emphasizes making learning interesting, engaging, and meaningful, while encouraging students to actively seek knowledge, ask questions, and construct understanding through authentic, hands-on experiences.
