Mariya Palanjian's interviews : Adrin Nazarian
Adrin Nazarian (He/Him/His), was born in 1973, and in 1981, at the age of 8, the chaos of political revolution and war with neighboring Iraq would force Adrin and members of his family to flee Iran and immigrate to the United States. For years, Adrin’s family remained separated across the globe until they were finally reunited and made a life in the San Fernando Valley.
Growing up, Adrin did well academically and worked part-time in local Valley banks to pay his way through school attending Pierce College, California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and in 1996 Adrin earned a degree in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
As Adrin attended school, he became civically active, interning in the office of former Congressman Howard Berman and volunteered on a number of non-profit organizations focused on youth and civic engagement. Adrin was accepted into the prestigious CORO Fellowship Program and went onto work in the offices of elected officials including Congressman Brad Sherman, Governor Gray Davis and Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom Labonge before becoming Chief of Staff to then Assistant Majority Leader of the California State Assembly, Paul Krekorian.
Election and Service in the California State Assembly
After being heavily outspent and winning an underdog campaign, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2012 to represent California’s newly drawn 46th Assembly District, which includes the Hollywood Hills, Lake Balboa, North Hills, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Toluca Lake, Valley Glen, Universal City, Van Nuys, and Valley Village.
