Mariya Palanjian's interviews: Dr. Cornelia Gibson
Dr. Cornelia Gibson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and clinical director of Agape Counseling Center and Network in Northern California. Her passion is in providing mentoring and training for mental health clinicians and students as we render culturally competent counseling for members of our community.
What got me to where I am today can be traced back to being a teen mother, a battered wife, divorced, college, health challenges, triumph, and of course faith. My journey pre-college was not an easy one, but I never lost hope, at least not completely. I started and stopped college several times while married but my environment was not conducive to learning. Once I started college for the last time, I completed my bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degree while just taking two semesters off.
My journey and passion for the field of mental health has been led by my desire to give others what I wish I had along the way. However, my journey has not been in vain. I've written a book, Surviving Broken Promises which "loosely" chronicled my life through the age of 33. I had hopes and interest in turning it into a stage play.
Separately, I have written the concept/pitch for a reality documentary which combines mental health, fault or forgiveness, and hope. I am looking for someone in the industry to help me take it further.
